Learning Ninjutsu
Ninjutsu is an ancient martial art that was developed by some groups of people in Japan during its Feudal time. It is a collection of techniques and methods that were used primarily for stealth and deception. This enabled them to survive during these periods of chaos and turmoil where the samurai reigned supreme and the shoguns ruled the land. Later on, people who practiced these arts became known as the shinobi or more popularly, the ninja. Females who practiced this art where alternatively called as kunoichi.
Because of the main attributes of ninjutsu, shinobis are the ideal persons to be used for sneaky activities like spying, scouting and assassination. They are said to be able to blend in any environment and can appear or disappear at will. This is due mainly to their training in the art of disguise and concealment. They use these techniques to avoid being detected and to accomplish their missions effectively. If detection is unavoidable, they have many means of escaping effectively by using their skills in misleading or confusing their opponent. One very popular depiction of this skill is with the use of smoke bombs which the shinobi uses to hide his escape.
While most of these are true, the history of ninjutsu is something that is still vague and unsure. This is due mainly to the lack of historical records that pertain to this ancient Japanese martial art. There is no definite source for all this information for an authentic shinobi is yet to be found. This is quite different from the shinobis that are produced by the various ninja schools that exist today. Also, unlike other forms of martial art, this martial art has no particular founder. No one knows when it really started or who started and developed it. While there are many famous names that are associated with the art, all of them came from a later time when the art was said to be already established.
However, this hasn’t discouraged people from becoming interested in learning more about ninjutsu. This is evidenced by its various adaptations in different aspects of the Japanese culture. It has been depicted in movies like American Ninja and the highly acclaimed Batman Begins. It has also been included in comic books (DC, Marvel, Sin city) and television shows (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, G.I Joe). Most importantly, because of the fact that it came from Japan, it is commonly seen in various Manga and Anime series like the highly popular Naruto.
People who want to learn ninjutsu can learn any of the many different varieties that encompass it. These include the Iga Ryu, Dux Ryu and the Genbunkan. Each variety is said to have come from a different Ninja family. While some of the techniques may differ from each other, all of them are the same in the main purpose of the art and that is to train to see without being seen and to attack without being attack. All of them make use of the same shinobi weapons like the Ninja to, the shuriken and the bow and arrow.
